Mallorca, Spain - travel and art inspiration

I sat on the balcony witnessing the radiant sun emerge from the horizon, warming the surface of the Mediterranean waters before me. Quietly, we watched the night give way to a new morning, a new day, as the warm sunlight awakened the senses with color and filled me with awe. I couldn’t help but feel a little overwhelmed by the immense scale of it all. My husband and I sat quietly, together, hand in hand, connected to each other and to the Spanish vistas. My heart was bursting with a deep sense of inspiration. I wanted to capture it in my memories, and, frankly, I wanted this moment to last forever.

We had awakened just to watch the sun rise over the warm waters of the Mediterranean. It’s truly a powerful experience, and one that remains with you forever. We had arrived in the island of Mallorca, Spain, to celebrate two dear friends’ wedding. It is heartwarming and delightful to be a part of such a celebration of love.

Vistas like this filled me with inspiration

We drove around the island of Mallorca for a few days, wandering the cobblestone alleys in tiny, sleepy villages.

I inhaled the gentle, misty Mediterranean air. I wanted to preserve that feeling. I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE the sound of the crashing waves - and there was a lot of that, too, along the rugged, rocky coast of the northern part of Mallorca.

I was quite enthralled by the natural elements, their colors, sounds, and feel. More than anything, the waves and their millions shades of blue, but also the grays and browns of the rocks, the twisted trunks of driftwood, the vibrant yellow-greens of the little plants growing seemingly on the sea rocks - small, but tough.

Exploring Mallorca, we found exactly what we were looking for - a sense of peace and calm. It is as if the soft sea breeze soothed our soul.

The wedding we attended was absolutely beautiful, lovely, and so memorable because it was a day filled with genuine celebration of love and commitment. Yes, I did cry a little, but it was hard not to. And I felt so honored to be there and witness two people commit to one another in a stunning setting. We laughed, we danced (a lot!), we ate delicious food and drank Spanish wines and filled our souls with joy!

Being immersed in the wilderness, in the rugged, rural and wild nature on this spectacular island of Mallorca I felt like I was in a painting. This trip will stay in my memories forever and the connection I felt with nature will always remain a part of me.

I think I will create a whole series of paintings inspired by Spain and the Mediterranean islands. I have a feeling that I’ll paint a lot of oceanscapes (like this one, also linked below, which I quite love!).

I spent a lot of my time gazing at the horizon, and at the waves crashing at the rocky outcroppings in the sea.

I wanted to remember the colors and sounds of the Mediterranean, to bring them back with me to my studio, and put them on canvas.

And one of my favorite finds in Mallorca:
